2023 NAEA International Week Wraps Up

The 2023NAEAInternational Week took place from October 16 to 20, 2023. Institutional leaders, mid-level managers, experts from countries including the UK, Singapore, Australia, Canada, as well as former education counsellorsstationed overseas participated in the International Week. This one-week event aimed to enrich cultural life at NAEA, broaden the international perspectives ofleadership program participants and faculty members and elevate NAEA’s international engagement through rich and diverse international activities.

The International Week kicked off on the morning of October 17th. Hou Huijun, Party Secretary and Executive Vice President of NAEA gave remarks at the opening. Mr. Tang Jui Piow, First Secretary (Education) of the Embassy of Singapore in Beijing, and Mr. Gu Qingyang, Senior Program Director at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of National University of Singapore attended as guests. Hosted by Yu Jingtian, Vice President of NAEA, the event was also attended by Vice Presidents Han Xu and Chen Rui, Li Xueming, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary for Discipline Inspection, and heads of relevant departments. All participants of the 4th Training Program for MOE System Middle-levelManagers (the 70th Training Program for Middle-levelManagers from HEIs), took part in the opening ceremony.

The International Week featured academic events including international lectures, youth forums, and dialogues with administrators. University leaders such as Gary Packham, Pro Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, Kent Anderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Newcastle (Australia), Gu Qingyang, program expert from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, Yang He, Director of the International Office at the Wilfrid Laurier University, and Michael Milne, Executive Director of China Center at the University of Sydney, delivered lectures and interacted with participants. The lectures covered talent development for regional innovation, university internationalization, top-tier talent development, universities’ overseas centers, as well as opportunities and challenges in cross-cultural communications.

Apart from academic activities, the International Week also held ceremonies for appointing guest professors, discussions on international cooperation, and tastes of foreign culture.

The International Week marks the first fully offline international academic event held by NAEA since the Spring International Forum in April. It is also the first international week at NAEA in the new era.
